Security Technology and Practices

Security Technology and Practices

AboutOne is committed to the responsibility and privilege of protecting your information. That commitment is our first priority, which is why we employ bank-level security standards. These are some of the technologies and practices we’ve implemented to protect your identity and household information:

Data Center Security

  • We use a state-of-the-art data center with firewalls, redundant hardware, redundant power sources, redundant battery backups, redundant cooling and redundant cabling, and video surveillance.
  • When staff must access the data center they must pass through no less than three doors that can only be unlocked with a key card/password AND biometric authentication (fingerprint or retina scanning).
  • Facilities are nondescript and have no published address.
  • The Data Centers are built away from other buildings and are surrounded by military-grade perimeter control beams in addition to other natural boundary protection–think ‘Fort Knox for the Internet.’

Server Security

  • AboutOne has received the VeriSign security seal. We use VeriSign 2046-bit SSL encryption to make your data impossible to read by anyone but you.
  • We also use McAfee SECURE to continuously test AboutOne with the latest hacker tools and techniques. They try to hack our system daily to make sure we aren’t vulnerable.
  • We apply bank-level data security standards. This includes encryption, auditing, logging, back-ups, and safe-guarding data.

Data Security

  • Your information is backed up every hour, and these back-ups are encrypted.
  • Passwords and account numbers are encrypted so no one is ever able to read your password.
  • We have taken strict precautions to make sure that even AboutOne employees don’t have access to your information.  We also never share anything you enter with anyone unless you authorize it.
  • We take all of this seriously, which is why we have hired TRUSTe to make sure that we honor our commitments to you.

You Are an Important Part of Our Security Efforts

Here are some things you can do to help protect your information.

  • Don’t share your password with anyone.
  • Change your password periodically and avoid using passwords for AboutOne.com that you commonly use for other purposes.
  • Use virus protection and a firewall on any computer you use to access AboutOne.
  • Do not enable automatic login to your AboutOne account or pre-fill the Login ID or password fields. If someone gets into your laptop they would have access to your account.
  • Always log off when you are done. To help we will automatically log you off after the system has been idle for more than 20 minutes.
  • Be careful about using third-party computers or computers that you are not familiar with, such as those in Internet cafés, and be sure you have fully logged out before walking away.

And just so you know, AboutOne will never ask for your Login ID or password, or any other information in either a non-secure or unsolicited email communication.
